Friday Night All-Stars: Week 17 Review

Match #1 – Enns (21) vs. Devenney (10)

Team Enns edged out a victory over Team Devenney late in this one, extending Team Devenney’s losing streak to eight weeks. The silver lining in this week is that it was Team Devenney’s best showing as a team since Week 11 and just unfortunately came up against an Enns team that doesn’t have many low weeks. The other positive takeaway from this matchup was the continued success of Holly Chaikowski (929) who put up her highest week of the season sweeping Garry Bell (792) with relative ease. Team Enns can credit a large portion of their success to Dwight Hurd (855) and Glen Howarth (980) who took a combined 9 points. Glen has really found his stride of late; this marks his 5th consecutive week over 970. Team Enns is now knocking on the door of making their way into the top eight teams.

Season series

Team Enns (46) 2 - 0 Team Devenney (16)

Dominant Performances

Glen Howarth – 980 (4)

Holly Chaikowski – 929 (4)

Trevor’s Pick: Team Enns ( ✓ )

Match #2 – Gelardi (18) vs. King (13)

Team captain Dwayne Gelardi (1023) put his team on his shoulders in game four to capture the win this week shooting a monster 354 game to not only steal his total and the game total, but also the grand total. This loss was Team King’s first loss since November 12th, snapping their eight-week winning streak. Team King had a fairly average night with the exception of Chris Fedorchuk (868) who also put up his season high, nearly sweeping the usually dominant leadoff Mitch Dubell (783). Team Gelardi can credit much of their success to spare Willy Starr (959) dominating Patrick Walker (819) at the second position, sweeping his points and adding a lot of support to the team.

Season series

Team Gelardi (40) 2 - 0 Team King (22)

Dominant Performances

Willy Starr – 959 (4)

Dwayne Gelardi – 354 (1), 1023 (4)

Chris Fedorchuk – 868 (4)

Wayne King – 966 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Gelardi ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Gelardi ( ✓ )

Match #3 – Hurd (23) vs. Cook (8)

Just as I predicted Team Hurd took the win this week, and in commanding fashion to boot. Besides the last game Team Hurd had control the whole night. The lone winning member of Team Cook was Jayson May (813) who took advantage of a floundering Chad Hurd (773), taking four points. Ryan Bannerman (926) may not have Covid, but apparently he’s caught some sort of bowling bug, throwing his third consecutive 900+ week. This was complimented further by strong bowling from both Brett Hendrickson (925) and Kevin Naugler (982) who each had 4-point nights. Kevin has been on a tear in 2022 taking 14/15 point so far. Team Hurd maintains their first place standing in the second half of the season.

Season series

Team Hurd (45) 2 - 0 Team Cook (17)

Dominant Performances

Ryan Bannerman – 292 (1), 926 (4)

Kevin Naugler – 982 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Hurd ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Cook ( X )

Match #4 – Orne (25) vs. Bartram (6)

Team Orne put on a bowling clinic tonight, taking the young Team Bartram to school. Team Orne becomes the first team this season to have three bowlers shoot 1000+ on the same night, a feat that will likely not be seen again in the league this season. Most notable of those three bowlers was David Wastle (1066) in the second position who joins Linda Orne (1010) this week, both bowlers setting personal season high totals. Something must have been in the air on lanes 7&8 last week because there was a third bowler on this set alone shooting a season high, Jeston Bartram (1051) cracked the 1000-mark for the first time this season in a big win over Darren Maxwell (1006). Rounding out the good bowling for the night was Colton Harris (826) who tried to make it a fourth person but only shot his second highest total of the season.

Season series

Team Orne (54) 2 - 0 Team Bartram (8).

Dominant Performances

David Wastle – 308 (1), 820 (3), 1066 (4)

Linda Orne – 809 (3), 1010 (4)

Darren Maxwell – 1006 (4)

Jeston Bartram – 808 (3), 1051 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Orne ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Orne ( ✓ )

Match #5 – Lourenco (15) vs. LaMonica (16)

This was a very tight match, with Team LaMonica making a strong comeback in game four to steal an individual total as well as grand total. The vast majority of the points made up in the last game came from Cyndie Barnett (960) winning her matchup 282-204 over Tabatha Gelardi (886), this was the deciding game for their individual total. Continuing with the theme of the night, both these ladies’ totals were season highs as well. These lanes were apparently working just right for the ladies as none of the five male bowlers on this set broke average, while all three ladies were over average. The last of these women was Belle Lourenco (982), who took it to Sam Gelardi (943) on the night, winning both her first two games by a single pin. Team LaMonica picks up a much-needed win as teams behind them start to close in on the aggregate standings.

Season series

Team Lourenco (32) 1 - 1 Team Gelardi (30).

Dominant Performances

Belle Lourenco – 306 (1), 982 (4)

Cyndie Barnett – 960 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team LaMonica ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team LaMonica ( ✓ )

Match #6 – Rodych (13) vs. Stevenson (18)

A bounce back week for Team Stevenson keeps them in the top half of the league. Team Rodych had a fairly strong showing with Lexie Sutherland (952) making her debut after taking over for Amanda Devenney due to injury. Also coming out with a big night was Carter Schade (908) adding his name to the list of bowlers who shot their season high totals this week, and taking the win over Tyler Reynolds (898). Despite these strong performances, Team Stevenson had too well-rounded of a night, having no bowlers under 800. The key piece for them being Erik Stewart (873) taking a huge win over Hailey Roberts (605) providing a solid support system for his team.

Season series

Team Rodych (31) 1 - 1 Team Stevenson (31).

Dominant Performances

Dylan Stevenson – 325 (1)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Stevenson ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Stevenson ( ✓ )

Match #7 – C. Jeffers (11) vs. B. Jeffers (20)

Once again Team B. Jeffers wins the battles of the brothers, this time in a much higher scoring affair. The leadoffs saw close matches all night with Scott Saunderson (804) taking the first game but after that Al Bristow (825) chipped away at total game by game eventually taking it. The second position saw even higher scoring with Chris Jeffers (983) looking like his old self again, another season high total, taking down Adam Williamson (931) in a game four comeback. As it was predicted by Trevor last week, Tim Hooper (883) and Ben Jeffers (922) battled it out, back and forth all night. Tim even starting the night an impressive 5/5 on 3-pin spares. Team C. Jeffers won the battle at the top three positions, but with Anthony Novak absent at anchor they were vulnerable and Tyson Nelson (1186) did not go easy on them, crushing any dreams they had of winning.

Season series

Team C. Jeffers (21) 0 - 2 Team B. Jeffers (41).

Dominant Performances

Chris Jeffers – 983 (4)

Tyson Nelson – 311, 331 (1), 875 (3), 1186 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team B. Jeffers ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team B. Jeffers ( ✓ )

Match #8 – Youzwa (11) vs. Cousins (20)

In what can be considered pretty much the only upset of the night, Team Cousins makes a strong comeback in games three and four to beat Team Youzwa. Overall, not a lot of strong performances in this one. Shannon Pruden (852) was the sole person to shoot over average on this set, also providing her team with good backing as she took a 123-point win over a struggling Jenna Gillrie (729). Gillian LaMonica (768) may not have had her best night but she took adavantage of the off night by Mark Prystupa (650) to provide even more support for her team. Team Youzwa can at least take a silver lining away on a night that saw their captain Colton Youzwa (977) finally break his cold streak and have a more typical night for what we would expect from him. Team Cousins had been on a five-week losing streak prior to this, hopefully they can use this as a turning point moving forward.

Season series

Team Youzwa (35) 1 - 1 Team Cousins (27).

Dominant Performances

Colton Youzwa – 977 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Youzwa ( X )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Youzwa ( X )
