Friday Night All-Stars Week 25 Review

Match #1 – Stevenson (16) vs. Cousins (15)

Team Stevenson adds another one to their current winning streak stretching it to an impressive seven straight weeks. They even managed to do it without taking grand total, as they lost that 3453-3405. This was accomplished thanks to some well-rounded bowling from the second and third bowlers, Jayden Nickerson (905) and Tyler Reynolds (905) taking 9/10 points and coming in big to capture a couple of game totals. This was also a solid showing from Team Cousins as every bowler was pretty much at average or better. Gillian LaMonica (796) used consistency to beatdown Erik Stewart (728), as he high and low games were just 10 pins apart. As well as last week saw captain Cindy Cousins (987) continue her hot bowling as of late, even adding a 353 to help capture her individual total. Season series Team Stevenson (39) 2 - 0 Team Cousins (23)

Dominant Performances

Cindy Cousins – 353 (1), 987 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Stevenson ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Stevenson ( ✓ )

Match #2 – Hurd (8) vs. LaMonica (23)

Team LaMonica was the second team last week to extend their winning streak to seven in a row. With the exception of their captain Chad Hurd (789), Team Hurd all had very average nights, nothing huge but nothing too small. That however, was not enough when the bottom three for Team LaMonica were firing on all cylinders. The most notable was the resurgence of Jeff Bradshaw (935) who finally broke his cold streak by throwing fire at Chad all night. In the bottom two Kevin Naugler (944) and Brett Hendrickson (957) simply got out-gunned by a couple strong performances from Andrew LaMonica (990) and Sam Gelardi (1097). This loss puts Team Hurd in 6th, 18.5 points up on 9th place, so still needing one more big week to feel comfortable in their A-side position. Season series Team Hurd (22.5) 0 - 2 Team LaMonica (39.5)

Dominant Performances

Andrew LaMonica – 323 (1), 990 (4)

Sam Gelardi – 364 (1), 883(3), 1097 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Hurd ( X )

Trevor’s Pick: Team LaMonica ( ✓ )

Match #3 – Devenney (19) vs. B. Jeffers (12)

With their second win in three weeks Team Devenney is attempting to salvage the end of this season and keep themselves out of last place. Team B. Jeffers will need to regroup after shooting their season worst total, 3247, which would have been even worse if not for Scott Saunderson (869) having a fairly strong night. The most exciting matchup of the night was most likely the leadoffs, especially with a tough 267-276 loss for Neil Stewart (831) in game two. I am not sure if either bowler wanted to win the matchup at the third position with Holly Chaikowski (740) taking a 3-2 split in the end of Adam Williamson (701) and the high game being Holly’s game four 200. Season series Team Devenney (24) 1 - 1 Team B. Jeffers (38)

Dominant Performances

Scott Saunderson – 514 (2)

Tyson Nelson – 301 (1)

Tyson’s Pick: Team B. Jeffers ( X )

Trevor’s Pick: Team B. Jeffers ( X )

Match #4 – Enns (26) vs. C. Jeffers (5)

For a team that doesn’t want to be on the A-side, Team Enns put themselves right back in the hunt with a huge win last week. With three bowlers shooting over 100 pins over their average total Team Enns was cruising over Team C. Jeffers who only had one member break average on the night. The leadoffs being the only matchup with both bowlers over average, saw Dwight Hurd (920) pull out a couple big games against Al Bristow (830) and most likely was not quiet about it as it was his season high total. The other nearly season high total in this match was at anchor where Glen Howarth (1121) had a phenomenal night shooting nothing less than 260, making it very difficult for Anthony Novak (871) to try and make up any ground. Season series Team Enns (51) 2 - 0 Team C. Jeffers (11)

Dominant Performances

Dwight Hurd – 920 (4)

Craig Enns – 980 (4)

Glen Howarth – 312 (1), 1121 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Enns ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Enns ( ✓ )

Match #5 – Cook (12) vs. Lourenco (19)

Team Cook saw their hot streak put out at the worst possible timing for themselves, worsening their gap between them and 8th place to 2.5 points. The opposite can be said for Team Lourenco who needed this win to keep their outside chance at making A-side a reality. Still 22.5 points back though they will need some help from the teams above them. With a close matchup all night Tabatha Gelardi (824) managed to pull away in game four to take her total over Dave Priestley (759) who is still struggling to find wins in the new year. The big difference in this match came at the thirds where Belle Lourenco (1113) was firing on all cylinders, taking a 245-pin victory over Alyssa Campbell (868), pretty well the difference in the totals for these two teams. Season series Team Cook (29) 1 - 1 Team Lourenco (33).

Dominant Performances

Alyssa Campbell – 307 (1)

Belle Lourenco – 339 (1), 877 (3), 1113 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Cook ( X )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Cook ( X )

Match #6 – Bartram (16) vs. Gelardi (15)

In probably one of the biggest upsets of the season Team Bartram picks up their first win of the half against one of the league’s top two teams, Team Gelardi, and they didn’t even need to win grand total to do it. This marks the second time this half that Team Gelardi has lost to a team in the bottom three positions. The victory by Team Bartram was definitely led by example from captain Jeston Bartram (1093) who started off with an impressive 649 double and surrendered only one point to the league’s winningest player Dwayne Gelardi (982). The other bowler really finding his groove is Colton Harris (903) putting up back-to-back 900+ weeks and snatching away his total in game four, 280-239 over Wayne Wolanski (866). Even Mitch Dubell (929) made a comeback in game four to win his total, a 362-185 win will certainly help your chances, and salvaged what could have been a rough night. Season series Team Gelardi (38.5) 1 - 1 Team Bartram (23.5).

Dominant Performances

Jeston Bartram – 369 (1), 649 (2), 1093 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Gelardi ( X )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Gelardi ( X )

Match #7 – King (13) vs. Orne (18)

This was the kind of match you expect to see from two teams in the top half, 3588 – 3571 and the points for grand total being the difference between a win and a loss. Game four saw Team Orne pull out the 956 – 874 win, making up enough pins to comeback for grand total. Chris Fedorchuk (850) really kept his team in it with his own solid night, coupled in with the uncharacteristically low night from Jennifer Duncan (679). You know at the thirds that these two had fun, as Karen Armstrong (952) took a 4-1 split over long time friend Linda Orne (896) and no match decided by more than 27 pins. The anchor matchup did see a bounce back week from Wayne King (1005) just bad timing that it came against Darren Maxwell (1085) who has been throwing a money ball the past three weeks. Season series Team King (31) 1 - 1 Team Orne (31).

Dominant Performances

Wayne King – 305 (1), 1005 (4)

Darren Maxwell – 832 (3), 1085 (4)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Orne ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Orne ( ✓ )

Match #8 – Youzwa (20) vs. Rodych (11)

This was a big week for Team Youzwa, with the win they widen the gap between them and 9th place to 16.5 points, giving them a little cushion. Colton Youzwa (962) led the charge for his team shutting down Lexie Sutherland (837) who had been on a recent hot streak. This match did see two players shoot their first 300s of the season. The first was Carter Schade (818) who whipped out a big 300-266 victory over Jenna Gillrie (887). The other was Mark Prystupa (807) who used his 307-134 game four match to pull away from Hailey Roberts (621). This was another match with really underwhelming scores in the third position. I expected Matt Rodych (822) and Chloe Fleming to be a close matchup, however the two of them combining to barely break a 200 average was not. Season series Team Rodych (15) 0 - 2 Team Youzwa (47).

Dominant Performances

Mark Prystupa – 307 (1)

Carter Schade – 300 (1)

Tyson’s Pick: Team Youzwa ( ✓ )

Trevor’s Pick: Team Youzwa ( ✓ )
